HIRED!3: Every Employment Method

HIRED! Every Employment Method is a comprehensive, step-by-step set of methods for getting hired more quickly. It includes job search’s evolution from newspaper ads to job boards to applicant tracking system software to LinkedIn and artificial intelligence. The 26 contributing authors and I share the importance of personal wellbeing in job search: financial planning, nutrition, time management, personal branding are addressed. Then the practical methods of job search are covered including: search engine optimization to get found on LinkedIn page-1 when recruiters search for candidates, targeting, networking, Boolean search logic, the Hidden and Posted Job Markets, methods to differentiate oneself from other candidates including the use of QR Codes, Marketing Plans (or Open to Work Documents), Value Proposition Decks…all with examples, use of Artificial Intelligence for resumes and cover letters, but also how to demonstrate its practical usage. The longest chapter is on interviewing including phone interviews, overcoming hidden objections and age discrimination (older and younger workers), answers to typically asked questions, informational interview (and how to get them), STAR Stories and their use. Various types of resumes (why some work better than others) are discussed, as are Resume myths. How to launch a job search marketing campaign and how to keep it going is included. When an offer is made, I suggest ways to negotiate a better package. Finally, there is an entire chapter on alternative methods of employment including franchising or business purchase, “the trades,” government jobs and methods for success after leaving the military. HIRED! is written as a conversation with the reader where questions “from the reader” are included when they might naturally be asked (and with much humor) than merely a dry, how-to manual.
